Penhaligon’s is one of the oldest traditional perfume brands in the UK. It’s got a great heritage and two royal warrants, so I was delighted when they approached Blue Gnu for help.
HR director Lesley Kerry needed help with reinforcing values as well as improving staff self-awareness and relationships inside the company. She’d heard about the power of Insights Discovery and its “language of colour” from a mutual colleague and wanted to harness it at Penhaligon’s.
She wanted all team members, regardless of level, to be aware of their personal impact and how their style affects their relationships with other staff and, of course, customers.
Beginning with the executive team, I introduced Insights on a team-by-team basis. During a one-day workshop, each team got to explore their own personal work style and build their self-awareness. They also learnt how to use that awareness to communicate better with their fellow team members.
I ran a series of workshops over many months, and now all Head Office and retail management staff have an Insights Discovery profile. I’ve also collected lots of information about how an individual communicates best in the workplace across the whole company.
The data I gathered together gives the Penhaligon’s leadership team a fantastic window into its people’s collective strengths – and weaknesses. They’re now able to analyse how people behave within the organisation and how that supports their culture.
Now at the next stage of our relationship, Blue Gnu and Penhaligon’s are building on this foundation to make the business even more powerful and continue its rather wonderful legacy. We’re beginning phase two of the development journey in Autumn 2019 and looking forward to another great partnership!
