The Lifeline Scope Relies On: Peter Canton Shares the Value of Our Practitioner Community

At the heart of our community are the long-standing relationships we build with people like Peter Canton, Head of Learning and Development at Scope Eyecare.


Peter has been a valued member of the Blue Gnu Insights Discovery Practitioner Community for several years now, and we’ve had the pleasure of working very closely with him to help make Insights a natural part of the culture at Scope. 


For Peter, it isn’t just about having the ability to produce profiles; it’s about the ongoing support for his team of 4 internal practitioners.  


In the fast-paced, complex world of pharma, Peter uses Insights as a "common language" for everything from customer support coaching to leadership development across finance and operations. While he manages a busy internal function, he looks to Blue Gnu as his "unofficial helpline" - an expert sounding board that provides external validation and a bit of "sanity" when navigating the hurdles of people development.

How is Insights Discovery used in your role at Scope? 

I lead a team of coaches and trainers supporting both sales and non-sales functions. We use the Insights model as our common language for team building and individual coaching - it has become an invaluable tool for internal relationship building. 


What were you hoping to gain from joining our Insights Practitioner Community? 

I wanted access to Insights experts. Having someone like Elaine (Blue Gnu CEO) to validate our thinking and bounce ideas off provides vital external validation for our internal work. 


How do you find working with Blue Gnu as a supplier? 

The customer service is exceptional - hugely responsive to both phone and email. The quality of support, coaching and training we receive as practitioners is "pretty close to perfect". 


How would you describe the administrative and behind-the-scenes support? 

It is excellent - very timely, efficient, and clear. If I communicate with anyone on the Blue Gnu team, I get a response back very quickly. 


What is the most valuable aspect of being a part of our Practitioner Community? 

The opportunity to share ideas and problems with people who understand the unique barriers of L&D. It "keeps you sane" to know you aren’t alone in these challenges. 


What is your experience of our annual Practitioner Development Day? 

It is always stimulating. It’s easy to get into a "one-dimensional" groove with your Insights delivery, but these days always provide three or four new areas to expand and refresh how we use the Insights portfolio at Scope. 


Does having Blue Gnu’s backing affect how you show up with Senior Leaders at Scope? 

Yes. Being able to point to a "reliable and organised" preferred supplier reflects positively on our internal team. It helps me represent our internal projects more strongly. 


Where do you find the highest value within the community? 

The "unofficial helpline" is worth its weight in gold. Getting immediate expert clarity when a profile looks a little different is a massive confidence booster and a significant time-saver. 


What would you say to someone "on the fence" about joining the Blue Gnu Insights community?

I’d say: "If not now, then when? And if not now, why?" There isn’t a good reason not to do it. You should definitely get on with it. 


What three words would you use to describe Blue Gnu? 

Passionate, expert, and great customer service. 


If you could summarise the value of the community in one sentence, what would you say? 

The value of Blue Gnu comes from the expertise of the whole team; they deliver above expectations by being reliable, knowledgeable, and customer focused.
